On 5 October 2004, the fire brigade received a call about a fire in a flat in the Bellvitge neighbourhood of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat. Inside the house, they found the bodies of two women. They notified the Mossos. The police found the victims tied up, gagged and with multiple stab wounds. They discovered that the victims were two trainee officers from the National Police Force. A race against time then began to identify and capture the killer.

‘We waited many years to be able to have the families in front of the camera. We wanted them to explain who the two victims of that rapist and murderer who killed women when he was out on leave were,’ explains Carles Porta. ‘Finding the balance between recounting such difficult events and respecting the pain of the families has been the hardest part.’

Crims was born out of the project of the same name by Catalunya Ràdio. Shortly afterwards, the format moved to television, to 3Cat, where it quickly became a media phenomenon. Journalist Carles Porta sheds light on the darkness with careful journalistic investigation combined with elegant, cinematic visuals. Impeccable sound design rounds off the result. Crims creates an atmosphere where the viewer—accompanied by Carles Porta’s voiceover—experiences the emotions first-hand.
